In setting out to create Messy Little Meditations, a friend of mine cautioned that it might be a mistake for a writing coach to share stories about publication rejection, writer's block, writer's rage, and those other imperfect life-moments that have nothing to do with writing. She's likely right. She's very intelligent. Who wants advice from flawed people? Who wants to read about risk, fatigue and failure?

Well, I do. I like hearing from flawed people best actually.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good success story (which, incidentally almost always starts with a moment of failure) but sometimes they leave me wondering: what about the process? What about mess? What about the down and dirty, bottom of the pit, middle of the forest, real mess of life? When we aren’t sure it will all work out. When we aren’t guaranteed a happy ending or even a nice lesson that we can all take home afterwards.

As someone who's lost a great many things: loved ones,  jobs, money. As someone  determined to keep finding my way into an ever larger, more expansive life – convinced that trying is better than not, and collaboration is better than isolation – I often find myself wishing I knew more about how others navigate the unknown. So that's why I'm writing Messy Little Meditations. Besides, hidden inside the mess is also where we find the best jokes, the brightest baubles of optimism and the most sacred slivers of life and love.

Enjoy.

UPDATE: Yes, I am aware this blog is desperately outdated. Feel free not to read it.
